In an effort to support the health and safety of the community of Martha’s Vineyard, the Dukes County Sheriff’s Office was pleased to make donations this week of hand sanitizer, supplied by the Executive Office of Public Safety (EOPS) and the Department of Correction (DOC). Bundles of 8-ounce bottles of sanitizer were given to Police Departments, Fire Departments, Island Food Pantry, Elder Services of the Cape and Islands, and Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, all vital safety and service programs which support the people of Martha’s Vineyard. Also provided with sanitizer was the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce, to be distributed to Island businesses as they find ways to open their doors to community members.

“Our Island is starting to open up, and everyone is exploring ways they can safely provide goods and services to our community. We know our community depends on businesses, small and large- for work, for supplies, for their emotional, physical and mental wellbeing. We hope this sanitizer will support the safety precautions community members are taking as they are pushing forward and finding new normal ways to operate throughout Martha’s Vineyard.”, said Sheriff Ogden.

The hand sanitizer, supplied by EOPS through the DOC, was transported to the Island by Sheriff Ogden and Special Sheriff Neville, who picked it up at Norfolk County Sheriff's Office last week, making a stop on the Cape to drop off donations for Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office and Nantucket Sheriff’s Office.

“We are lucky to be a link in a network which is sharing resources. If there is nothing else we are learning during these trying times, it is the importance of leaning on one another and the value of support. Thank you to Secretary Turco, under Secretary Peck, Norfolk County Sheriff Jerry McDermott, and Commissioner Carol Mici for the donation.” said Sheriff Ogden.
